Indiana Farm Bureau’s clout with elected officials was on display the past two weeks as INFB members met with six members of Indiana’s congressional delegation.

(Indianapolis) – June 11, 2021 – Indiana Farm Bureau’s clout with elected officials was on display the past two weeks as INFB members met with six members of Indiana’s congressional delegation including U.S. Sen. Todd Young and U.S. Reps. Jim Baird, Trey Hollingsworth, Frank Mrvan, Victoria Spartz and Jackie Walorski. INFB President Randy Kron also met with U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon to discuss issues impacting agriculture.

“Building relationships with legislators is an important part of Indiana Farm Bureau’s grassroots effort, and the June congressional visits demonstrate INFB’s clout with legislators,” said Kron. “During the legislative roundtables, several of the same issues were discussed – stepped-up basis, labor shortage, broadband, trade and cybersecurity. INFB appreciates the time and willingness of the legislators to meet with our members.”

Several of the legislators commented on meeting with and hearing directly from INFB members about important issues impacting Hoosier farmers and the entire agriculture industry.

“I always look forward to the opportunity to hear from Farm Bureau members and constituents on the issues that directly impact their livelihood,” said Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04). “The agriculture industry is in the midst of significant policy debates, and I’m proud to use my agricultural background and farm experience in Congress and the House Ag Committee as a voice to support our Hoosier farmers.”

“The importance of American agriculture and the contributions of Hoosier farmers were front and center throughout the COVID-19 pandemic” said Congressman Trey Hollingsworth (IN-09). “Through continued discussions and roundtables with INFB and other agricultural local leaders, I’m working to further address the needs of Hoosier farmers in District 9 and across the state.”

The six in-person roundtables were held in counties across the state including Boone, Elkhart, Harrison, LaPorte and Tipton.

“Hoosier farmers are the backbone of our economy, and they work hard to keep good, nutritious food on our families' tables,” said Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02). “I'm grateful to Indiana Farm Bureau for the opportunity to sit down recently with farmers in LaPorte and Elkhart Counties to hear about the challenges they face and discuss commonsense solutions.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to tour the Smoker Farm facility in Wanatah and meet with members of Indiana Farm Bureau,” said Congressman Frank Mrvan (IN-01). “I enjoyed discussing the many federal legislative issues important to the agricultural community and am grateful for the dedicated work and services that they provide for the Northwest Indiana economy.”

The visits took place on INFB members’ farms throughout the state.

“A big thanks to the legislators for taking the time to meet with INFB members, as well as our members who hosted the roundtables,” added Kron.
