Farmers For Monarchs, a collaboration promoting on-farm conservation, was launched in February. This unprecedented effort by farmers, ranchers, conservation groups and others (including Farm Bureau) seeks the voluntary expansion of pollinator and conservation habitat, including planting milkweed and establishing habitat along the North American monarch butterfly migration route.
The goal is to increase the habitat for monarch butterflies in the 2018 and 2019 growing seasons so that information can be factored into a decision by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on whether the monarch should be listed under the Endangered Species Act. Farmers can visit Farmers For Monarchs for resources and information.
