Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans launched Oct. 1, and the program is now offering Traditional Health Plans, Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans and dental and vision coverage to Farm Bureau members.
“I think it will open a door for many farmers,” said Jake Smoker, who farms with his family in LaPorte County. “Making sure that they, their families and their employees have access to health coverage – this has been a pain point in a lot of operations.”
Information on all the health plans is available at the INFB Health Plans website, www.infbhealthplans.com, which launched Sept. 1.
Members and potential members can also get information by calling toll-free 1-888-964-0854 or visiting an Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance office.
Members have been asking INFB for a health care benefit for years but figuring out how to do so wasn’t easy. In fact, state law had to be changed to allow INFB to offer the new program. The Indiana General Assembly made the necessary change earlier this year, with the bill passing the Indiana Senate on a 49-0 vote and the House on a 94-2 vote.
“This has been a true grassroots effort,” said Smoker, who has frequently spoken in favor of the proposal. “It’s the truest form of what Farm Bureau is supposed to be about. Taking an idea from the membership, guiding it through the Indiana General Assembly and now rolling out the program – this whole process has been the definition of how it’s supposed to work.”
