Indiana Farm Bureau District 3 has a new representative on the Women’s Leadership Committee.
Stacy Walker of Rensselaer is now the district education and outreach coordinator, replacing Marla Storm.
In her new position, Walker represents members in Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Jasper, Newton, Tippecanoe and White counties.
“I really enjoy presenting Ag in the Classroom lessons to the local youth and will continue to do so,” Walker said. “As district education and outreach coordinator, I’m looking forward to continuing with Ag in the Classroom as well as working with other counties to strengthen their AITC outreach.”
Walker and her husband, Scott, have four children and operate a diversified farm on which they grow pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn, selling to local businesses, at the local farmers market and from their home. They also have some chickens, goats and a few cattle, and Walker helps her father in the field with hay and during harvest season.
Walker’s professional life also is very diversified.
“I grow cut flowers and sell at the farmers market and deliver bouquets locally, and I am a part-time florist at a local shop,” she said. She is also the owner of Simply Sassafras, where she sews photography props (little outfits and headbands) for newborn and child photographers and ships them worldwide.
“I also have a farm blog, ‘ The Backroad Life,’ where I share recipes and farm life on the blog and on Instagram,” she added.
She first became involved in Farm Bureau in 2004 when she started attending what is now called the Young Farmers & Ag Professionals Conference. She then joined the Jasper County Farm Bureau board and was eventually elected to the county education and outreach coordinator position, a position she held for five years.
Walker has a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in landscape horticulture and design with a minor in food and agribusiness management. In addition to her Farm Bureau activities, she also serves on her county’s 4-H Expansion and Review Committee and the Rensselaer Central Agri-Science Program Advisory Committee.
