When communicating about agriculture to non-farmers, one of the most important things people in farming need to do is find a way to connect to their listeners.
And one of the most important ways to make connections is by telling your story.
Indiana Farm Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Committee is hosting an event on the power of storytelling at INFB headquarters on Tuesday, Sept. 17, for women who are members of INFB. Titled “Purposeful Storytelling: Start with Why,” the event will include workshops guided by Jessica Cabrera, managing director of member engagement at the American Farm Bureau Federation, and Janis Highley, INFB 2nd vice president and chair of the WLC.
Registration is now open on INFB’s website. Space is limited to approximately 20 people, so anyone who is interested is encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
The goal of the program is to help participants leverage their personal stories to influence change and connect to people.
“You don’t need to have all the answers to tell your story,” Highley said. “However, you do need to be willing to look at the good parts and the difficult parts unflinchingly, providing the all-important context and reasoning for how and why we do what we do.”
