Anyone with pesticides they no longer want can take advantage of the Office of the Indiana State Chemist’s Clean Sweep Pesticide Disposal Program to dispose of these at little or no cost.
The program is designed to collect and dispose of suspended, canceled, banned, unusable, opened, unopened or simply unwanted pesticides (a classification that includes herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, miticides and more).
All farmers, ag dealers, members of the general public, schools, golf courses, nurseries, cities, towns, municipalities and county units of government are eligible to participate.
Those who wish to dispose of their pesticides through this program must complete a “Pesticide Disposal Participant Form” to the best of their ability, and then mail, fax or email the completed form to Nathan Davis at 765-494-4331 or cleansweep@groups.purdue.edu. For a copy of the form, visit the Office of the Indiana State Chemist’s “Clean Sweep” page.
Davis said that while the Office of the State Chemist would like to receive the forms by Aug. 9, those who miss that deadline are encouraged to call him at 765-494-7108 to see if their containers can still be recycled through the program.
Recycling services will be offered at successive sites across the state on Aug. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. All recycling locations will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. A full list of the available dates and sites can be found here.
Containers must be leak-free and safe to transport. Do not mix materials. Empty pesticide containers will not be accepted. Also not accepted will be bulk containers not documented on the form.
Additional questions may be directed to Davis.
