INFB President Randy Kron is confident that Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will strive to make agriculture's case for the importance of farm exports when renegotiating trade deals. Less confident a this stage that the administration's policy will be swayed.

Indiana Senator and Senate Agriculture Committee member Joe Donnelly, along with Indiana Farm Bureau President Randy Kron and public policy staff Bob White, Katrina Hall and Shelby Swain hosted a farm bill listening session on Tuesday, August 15. Fourteen Hoosier farmers attended the meeting, which was held in the Normandy Barn at the Indiana State Fair.

Indiana Farm Bureau's "Taste From Indiana Homes," is among the various events and venues that Indiana State Fair attendees can explore to taste and learn more about Indiana agriculture, food and Hoosier-grown products. Taste is a three-day, food tasting and ag education event sponsored by the INFB Women's Leadership Committee.

It's not everyday that you have lunch with the Secretary of Agriculture, but Indiana Farm Bureau President Randy Kron did on Tuesday, August 8. USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue attended the Indiana State Fair where he held a farm bull listening session with Governor Holcomb, Lt. Governor Crouch and leaders from local and state farm government and non-governmental agencies like Indiana Farm Bureau.

Indiana Farm Bureau names the winners of two of its biggest Young Farmer Awards. Jeff Demrly of Wolcott (White County) is the recipient of the Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture Award. Mark and Brianna Chapman of Springport (Henry County) are the winners of the Young Farmer Achievement Award. Both Demerly and the Chapmans will move on to the national competition held during the American Farm Bureau Federation convention in Nashville in January 2018.

INFB announces the 2017 winners of two of its top young farmer awards: the Achievement Award and the Excellence in Agriculture Award. Matthew and Brianna Chapman of Henry County will receive the Achievement Award, which recognizes young farmer's leadership abilities and what they have achieved with their farms. Jeff Demerly of White County was chosen for the Excellence in Agriculture Award, which recognizes involvement in agriculture, leadership ability and involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations.

Indiana Farm Bureau is ready for the 2017 Indiana State Fair. From new attractions like the Peterson Farm Brothers show on Opening Day, August 4 and the "Barn Theater" featuring videos of Hoosier farmers sharing their stories to favorites like "Taste From Indiana Farms" (August 15-17), Old-Fashioned Pancake Breakfast (Aug. 16), "Ag Fact Adventure" scavenger hunt and, yes, free popcorn. The Farm Bureau Building is located on the north side of the fairgrounds just inside gate 12.
