Indiana Farm Bureau president Randy Kron is encouraged by both Indiana State Department of Agriculture director Ted McKinney's selection as USDA undersecretary for trade and the creation of the position itself. Kron believes McKinney is more than up to the challenge and that the level of the position will figure prominently in increasing ag trade opportunities overseas.

Indiana Farm Bureau has chosen the six finalists for two of its 2017 Young Farmer awards: the Excellence in Agriculture Award and the Achievement Award. This year's finalists are from Wolcott, Richland, Lexington, Springport, Nappannee and Kendallville. Indiana's winners will go on to compete with young farmers and ranchers from other states at the American Farm Bureau Federation national convention in January 2018.

Indiana Farm Bureau announces the recipients of its collegiate scholarships: the Marion Stackhouse Scholarship, two Collegiate Farm Bureau scholarships and 10 Carolyn Hegel Memorial Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to students involved in agriculture.

Both American Farm Bureau's chief economist and deputy executive director, public policy Bob Young and senior director, congressional relations Mary Kay Thatcher addressed the priority topic as they provided insight into the U.S. and ag economies and the 2018 farm bill.
